History of Tombo

Ages ago, Japan was known as Akitsushima, “Land of the Dragonflies.” In the days when the mighty Samurai ruled the land, the dragonflyoften adorned their armor as a symbol of strength. An abundance of dancing dragonflies over rice paddies is a sign of pure water and a good harvest to come, a favorable omen for the rice farmers a nation relies upon.

It is from this history and lore that TOMBO rises. A distinct craft Shochu — think Japanese style vodka only more dynamic. TOMBO is distilled from barley and white koji offering a lush grain aroma followed by hints of pear and citrus flavors accented by tropical spice. The finish is clean and long with notes of spice, steel and green olive.

Enjoy TOMBO chilled neat, with a splash of cool water, a dash of fresh citrus or mixed in your favorite cocktails. However you take your TOMBO remember to share with friends and let your inner dragon fly.

Imbibe Sips, What We’re Drinking Now — Tombo Shochu

Tombo, a full-bodied shochu made from barley and white koji (a mold enzyme that is also used in making sake) is smoothe, supple and charmingly fruit-forward, with notes of plum, melon and banana. Add a drop of water and the spirit mellows out and opens up with lovely vanilla notes emerging. Perfect for summertime sipping, Tombo is a fantastic match for sushi or even something a little more unexpected like proscuitti and melon. Try Tombo the simple, traditional way shochu is enjoy at Yoshi’s in San Francisco: on the Rocks, or mixed with oolong tea, grapefruit juice or water to complement the spirits flavors.
